A Week of Pleasantries & Genocide

The Good: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Movie Marathons, Vicaden
The Bad: Surgery, Immobility, Pain and Extreme Discomfort
The Ugly: Sniping & coughing, sneezing and dropping deuces with knife sized war wounds in your abdomen.

This week was the ol' hernia surgery. Same day MW2 was released. Couldn't be a better time to be bedridden...besides all the suffering. If I'm not on the console (which is rare), I've watched Doberman Cop, Violent Streets, Hokuriku Proxy War, Machine Gun Dragon, Three Rabid Brothers, The Streetfighter and the Yakuza Papers (All). I'll be honest, almost every waking moment has been getting knifed in the back by teenage Eminem's. The wif has been a saint and I can't complain. She picked up the game and has been waiting hand and foot. I'm milking the agony a bit, it won't last much longer, but I'll stretch it all I can. If anyone wants to play multiplayer, hit me up. I'm good at catching bullets. Caught this video below staring Reiko Ike. She's been in a ton of Pinky V films, but this one doesn't ring any bells. Probably part of a short series. Looks popcorn comfy though.

GODZILLA STOMPS PHILLY IN RUKU!

THE NEW YORK YANKEES ARE THE 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS! This team is my silver lining in sports fandom psychology. I'm thankful for not being a miserable Mets fan. The Jets will probably never get to the Super Bowl before I spit my last breath, so the Yanks provide some comfort in my dark & empty heart football has ingrained in my being. Congrats to Hideki Matsui for carrying the offense in Game 6 with 6 ribbies and winning the series MVP. Hope the Yanks do him right by giving Godzilla an extension.

Happi Birfday Akira Kobayashi! (72)

Today, Nov. 3rd [1937], 60's Nikkatsu Superstar Akira Kobayashi celebrates his 72nd birthday. It's no surprise that AK was one of Nikkatsu's rising young guns during their explosive action noir era. Rumor has it, he's a singer as well. Imagine that, a Japanese actor in that era who sings? (sarc/) I don't hide the fact that AK isn't my favorite actor, hell he doesn't even sniff my top 20 in the genre. Two of his better films are "Violent Streets" and "Bloody Territories" and of course his spots in Fukasaku's "Battles" series. That I know of, he's still kicking around, playing a wannabe golf-pro and drinking with oyabun's. Kind of surprised he's still kicking.

TOKU-WEEN

Halloween makes me think of costumes and costumes make me think of those hundred's of Ultraman clones in their sassy outfits. None of the modern day bullshit toku either, strictly 70's pimp. I'm not winning any doctorates on the subject, but here's a clip (it's a doozy) of such series I've never heard of, "Battle Hawk". Why is there always a fat guy on the team? I'll wager comic relief. The wif and I have already eaten our Halloween candy ("FUN" sized Snickers - as oppose to the "Sad" sized Snickers), those little bastards will be disappointed tomorrow. Time to hit CVS for more junk. I don't want to be one of those geezer's rapping nickels in tin foil or handing out fruit. Those F'rs got egged.

TV, What did I do to you?

TV, why do you hate me so much? What did I do to deserve this? Week after week, month after month, you regurgitate the same tripe over and over again. I'm embarrassed for you. When will IFC learn that Samurai Saturday's should consist more titles than looping the same Mifune / Kurosawa films? I fucking hate the "Samurai" Trilogy. I said it! It bores the shit out of me and makes my eyes vomit. I may exaggerate, but when the highlight in this time frame is "Aces: Iron Eagles III" (starring Lou Gossett Jr. & Sonny Chiba), the FCC needs to crack down on spray paint huffing schedule coordinators. You compromise my dignity. I won't even bring up...okay I will, It's f'n Halloween time and not a single fuckin' Toho film! Nada, nilche, fuckal! Sure I have them all on DVD, but that's not the point! Fuck off TV, you and your poor programming. Thank god for Netflix.

UFO spotted in yocal newspaper, says Old Koot.

Not something you see everyday in such a pristine newspaper as my New York Daily News. Unlike that cesspool printed by hack rival New York Post. Utter gar-bage! My wife reads that shit! Apparently, I didn't do a thorough background check. That's a deal breaker right there. The DN, always on top of important current events.

October DVD's & Other non-sense

I enjoy October, the Pagan holiday, etc. Fall is my favorite season. I like change. Who doesn't? I know who doesn't, DVD Distributors! How many times is "Ichi the Killer" going to be released, on blu-ray none the less. What's so special this time around that this copy of the film is the must of musts to have? Are people actually buying these re-releases and obtaining multiple copies of one film? Are people that dumb? Yes, people are that mentally challenged, including yourself for reading this drivel. Any~hoo, not much to talk about regarding DVD releases that interest me. Only Kurotokagi released a few films that grasp my interest.
My only gripe (and it is a large one) is when is Kuro going to release "New Battles w/o Honor & Humanity 3"? Why are we being punished? (kicks stone) Where's my Great Pumpkin gifts?
Yesterday, I finally finished the anime series "Death Note" (2006). I know most people tend to think "anime" as "cartoons" or "childish" or whatever. You're ignorant. Childish maybe, but definitely not suitable for children. Any way, I'm not going to go off on some tangent defending anime. I like it, that's all that matters. Better than watching any series with Jenna Elfman. Any way, I highly recommend this series, even if you're not into anime. It's got a very interesting and unique story and questions whether the main character's motives are right or wrong. I'm not surprised at how many Otaku worship this character. Although, most Otaku would worship a heaping of steamed rhino shit if they thought it "looked good". I thoroughly enjoyed it. If swashbuckling rogues, bullet ballet vagabonds, giant robo strifes with intergalactic consequences aren't you're shtick, then this is the (thinking man's) anime for you. **MAJOR SPOILER** The series finale (ep.37) was a dandy. I was extremely satisfied that the egotistical psychotic lead character, Light Yagami, finally got what he deserved. This coming from someone who loves to root for bad guys and underdogs (That's probably because I'm a NY Jets fan). Near is L.2, but it was pleasant to see that smug look a victory wiped off the face of Light as his world came crashing to an end. *END SPOILS* I believe they've made 3 live action films in Japan and talk of a live action film in the states is in progress. I would shy away from those until you've seen the series.
ps. The Jets suck. I hate them :(

The Black Tight Killers (1966) trailer

Surprisingly, I never got to see this flick. It was available but for buku dollars. Now it's as rare as Polar Bears. Even Netflix has it listed as "missing". The trailer certainly is enticing even though Akira Kobayashi is low on the YE icon totem pole.

HOTWAX...the Eros Musical

To the CBE bourgeois reader: Bored of Beethoven & Bach? You should be, pruny curmudgeon. Here's a collective picturama of HotWax CD's from some of the genre's desirables; including a sprinkle of Pinky V soundtracks, Toshiaki Tsushima, Nikkatsu and other this & that. I threw in FTB just to give the pics some symmetry. Yes, they are pics only, I absolutely refuse to spend anymore than the 30 seconds I'm wasting on this post. You could legally obtain most of these through legit channels, although I believe most of these come at a hefty price. So, unless you're P-Diddy or Daddy Warbucks, you could stumble the interweb with the determination of a...Robin Hood type character. Trying to find digital alternative means is quite eluding. I've had little success, but success I've had, just not a lot. I think Dusty Grooves carries some of these tracks. Check it or not, I don't care, just throwing it out there.

NEW YORK ANIME FEST (Sept. 25-27th)

This weekend the Anime Fest comes to New York City (Jacob Javits Center). I'm debating on what to do. If I go, I go alone. I'd drag the wife (who would be miserable until we hit some pubs) but she's traveling that weekend. Which leaves me by my lonesome (which could mean lots of catch up film and video game time while drinking lots of cold refreshing alcoholic beverages). Which is always SUPEr MEGa FUn Fun fun. Now, I enjoy anime. I only own 1 Anime on DVD (Ninja Scroll). I'm not much of a hoarder, collector, multiple chachka geek and I'm no connoisseur of Anime knowledge. I have past limited knowledge and have been watching some Adult Swim series, Gurren Lagann's and Gundam 00's etc as of recent, but that's the bulk of my extensively limited knowledge on the subject (not including horrific bootlegged Demon / Woman romances(?) from the early-mid 90's that would make you squirm). Like many other convention / festivals spotlighting "nerd" culture, I think the clientele could be worthy of going alone (probably not). The odds of Cosplay and LARP'ing could be significantly high, why wouldn't you want to go and witness that?! I guess there could be some norms and regulars there to and an interesting list of upcoming films / industry types as well. Still, I'm on the fence.
