TV DVD NEWS & Other Non Fascinating Nonsense

Hulu nerds will be pleased to find the CG Big Robo / Kaiju 1960's Toho style "Negadon: Monster from Mars" in their library. A short CG film that can't help but make you reminisce that snotty little brat era of your life. The downside here are the rumors to Hulu's potential subscriber fees down the road. Why ruin a good time, greedy filth!?

Sundance Channel is showing Kim Ji-Woon's "A Bittersweet Life" a few times this month beginning Feb 6th at Midnight. Here's some other dates: http://bit.ly/aVxQ62 How about something new Sundance (and IFC)?

Am I the only douche who didn't know Hiroyuki Sanada was starring in the new season of "Lost". In my defense, I am no fan of the show and only watch it when my fangirl wife has control of the Tele. She DVR'd the show and began watching it last night. To my surprise, there's Sanada! The wife's like "Who's he?". I was completely embarassed for her, silly woman. How dare your! And when are we getting a proper subbed unedited release of "Roaring Fire"? ( http://bit.ly/dkYt99 ) Total disrespect.

This month features some pleasantries but mostly repackaged DVD's from the legit distro's. Top of the list has to be Tadashi Imai's "Bushido: The Cruel Code of the Samurai" starring Kinnosuke Nakamura. The Rica films have been slapped together in a pretty, pinky box. I've never seen any of these PV films and no one I know interested in the genre seems to rave about it, which is why it's on my Netflix list and not in a shopping cart. A couple of films seem to be getting the blu ray treatment. Don't know how that tempts you if you already own a previous copy of the film. Me, no Interest in rebuying or bluray. To each his own though, even though rebuying to me is stupid. I said it, it's stupid. Just throw your money my way.

Kuro Stock Rising

To the CBE devotee and ONLY CBE followers of my laundry of wisdom, the grapevine brings news that Kurotokagi Gumi has a new set of teeth in its arsenal. This go-go around, Kuro brings dentured kudos to goliath mega-uber-star Toshiro Mifune. His work includes "Ronin of the Wastelands Vol.3", "Rickshaw Man", the East/West western "Red Sun" (w/Chucky Bronson) and "Vagabonds in a Country at War". Since I'm a total Fukusaku groupie, my interests perk up with the elusive "Crest of Betrayal". There's a few others, so check out the site. As usual, no Jitsuroku dynamite. It's a shame, it really really is.

For shits and giggles and to see what a total douche I am during Jet games, my nerdy film nerd friend taped our reactions during the Jets Championship game. I'll say this, it is "edited", but it was much tamer than my normal childish outbreaks (ie. Tourettes on roids). Probably because my expectations where extremely low and my nerves were like epileptic cringes judging from nervous twitching, tapping, brow wiping and other useless hair pulling I do. Needless to say, the hair is now cropped and playoff beard the way of the nessie. Point and laugh till you can't breath...or not.

I < 3 TAB ...Not the Soft Drink

Let me preface by saying, I am not an Apple Fanboy (nor hate them). I don't own any Apple products. The wif has an Iphone and Apple laptop (work related). I'm a PC douche. Every time I've tried to use an Apple desktop/laptop, I feel like someone hit me in the head with a brick. And for that reason, I'll probably stick with PC products and compatible accessories. Make no mistake, I dig the Iphone. It would keep me busy and it smokes my Samsung Blackjack2 that can't wait to get smashed and upgraded.

For months I've been following TechCrunch's doomed "CrunchPad" (look it up) that has turned into the "JooJoo". Since I heard about Tablets, I've been dying to get one. I need a tablet to keep me busy instead of talking to my wife (j/k). Having heard that Apple might birth one out, I was optimistic that it could be my first purchase. Reading all the techie blogs, you'd think that Steve Jobs just ate a bowl of piping shit for breakfast and forgot to brush his teeth. The Ipad presser put lemon pusses on these neo-techy-blogytes fascists. I'm no gadget guru, but I know what I want. The Ipad looks/does what I expected it to do.

My only gripe (which is small) with the Ipad is thus:
1. No USB port
2. No Front or Back camera
3. No new OS - It's essentially a big Itouch (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
4. No SD card input.
5. No Flash - I believe that means it won't play Hulu :(
6. Another data plan bill - Although we all should support AT&T!
7. No Widescreen - More 4:3 than 16:9.
8. Itunes - Say what you want about the Zune, but the software smokes, dances the jig on Itunes stupid face. I don't have a Zune HD yet, only 80Gb...and 80gb Zune > 80gb Ipod any day! Rumors float about a possible ZHD w/ phone [WinMo 7?], so I may as well wait for that since my cell needs upgrading. I love the Zune Software and would rather use that than Itunes (especially since I have over 12K songs in Zune).

Long story short, the Ipad is at the top of my list as far as "Tablets" go. I will be purchasing a tablet in the near future. Tablets are starting to hit the market but only a few are eye catching. I'll wait until I hear more about the "HP Slate Tablet", hopefully Microsoft's "Courier" (which may have been a dream), a Google "Chrome" tablet (fingers crossed) or any Android tabby's. We still have a few months til these puppies hit the market, but in the words of Veruca Salt "I WANT ONE NOW!" (and cheap).

Oldboy - Sunny Ch. - Tonight

Tonight (1/26), the Sundance Channel is showing Korean director, Park Chan-Wook's "OldBoy" at 8PM. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the watch. Not as super fabulous as everyone made it out to be, but it was a subtle hoot. The Jets suck, I don't want to talk about.

SOKKO HULU'S

I'm a finicky person when it comes to the comfort of watching video (be it Film or TV). I almost never EVER watch anything on a computer monitor. With a fairly new setup, we now have a 22" widescreen monitor that's pretty on the eyes. Still I'm a TV kind of person (it's a couch v chair thing). Since streaming video is all the rage via Xbox360/Netflix, I ventured to Hulu to check out what they offer. With the new monitor, I made an exception to watching on such a small screen (as opposed to my 42" LCD HDTV). Any way, Hulu isn't exactly mind blowing, although it does offer some decent anime series I'm catching up on. I recently just found Boiling Point, Violent Cop, Pistol Opera and Full Contact in the feature films section. I mostly use Hulu for keeping my Netflix queue lower when watching anime series. I'm getting off topic here, what I wanted to add is that I just found that Hulu streams a childhood show that tickles me pink, "Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot". They have all 25 episodes (dubbed, but who cares). This is like randomly watching someone get hurt, which is great because it's not you. It's not exactly the cure for Dengue fever, but it's free, so what's to complain about.

JETS - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - Am I in a Coma?

The Jets do the unthinkable and beat the +9pt favorites San Diego Chargers last night. I'm a little groggy this morning. A minor hangover, the voice a tad harsh and my heart may have skipped a beat here and there. Anything thing that happens to this team now is gravy. We're playing with house money. I hope Mike Fat-Boy Francesca (WFAN Broadcaster) has a heart attack. Your hatred for the Jets is atrocious, it would be a pleasure if you got hit by a cement truck.

ROCK! YOUNG! OH! EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!

This looks dynamite. Rock-a-billy Monkees, Young toughs and Oh! short-shorts & school girl minkes with shanks; a successful formula for any celluloid romp. I'm not on the up & up on this film, shit I don't know who this Nami wannabe is or these other broads or even who directed this fine piece of PV. I do know that the 2nd greatest actor to come from the land of the rising sun, my main man Hideo Murota is in this flick. Which should come as no surprise to the legions of Hideo Murota fans, like myself, El Presidente del club de admiradores.

JAN.9th, 4:30PM ON NBC, WATCH HISTORY!!!

That's right! HISTORY! Rookie Head Coach Rex Ryan is marching my JETS to the Super Bowl! I love this fat bastard. Not only is he a refreshing change from the gestapo coaching staff we had last year, but he has his players believing they can do anything. Maybe it's the painkillers or concussions, but we are not the SOJ's of the past. Of course I fully expect us to lose in heartbreak fashion, but I have this unfamiliar hint of optimism that we can pummel the Bengals just like we did last week. I feel like the Grinch when his heart grew.
Anytime your coach's caricature is Peter Griffin. That's an A+++.
Rex drinking a beer at a Yankee game. Sure that seat isn't to excited.
Jets QB Mark Sanchez, you had me at "Hello", but with your 20 INT's, you're about as attractive as a meth-ed-up, scabby, goof tooth hooker on a fish smelling pier. DON'T FUCK IT UP THIS SATURDAY! I'll be drinking Modelo just for you.
REVIS CHRIST, SUPERSTAR! You deserve the DPOY. But you won't get it, because everyone hates the Jets, including gOD.
There are some shows worth watching in the next week, just not while the Jets are on. THMAX (ThrillerMax?) has "The Street Fighter" on 1/9 @ 4:35AM. Expect the dub. HBO is showing Kitano's "Brother" on 1/14 @ 2:30AM. Get the DVR ready.
Also, on Showtime 1/9, Miike's "Sukiyaki Western Django" premieres at 3:30AM and Etsuko Shihomi's "Sister Street Fighter" is on 1/11 at 4:50AM on OMAX (OuterMax). There's a few other shows airing, but this post is already a mile long and I'm not looking them up. So, you're an adult, figure it out.

Hahaha! Eli Manning, you big douche bag. Watching the Giants collapse at the end of the season was like a happy ending (not the fairytale kind). To bad you didn't break your throwing arm or get gang green (get it) in your fingers. I hate your team. Fuck the vaGiants and their fans! Did I go over the line? I'm a pessimistic scumbag Jet fan, F 'em, they deserve everything they get!

January 2010 DVD Releases

OK, the holidays are over, I'm a little tubby and it's time to get back to exercising and work. Real work, not this day on, day off bullshit I've been doing the past month. Not that I mind, but it's all fantasy. And I've been Capt Six Pack almost every night for the past month. Believe me, I love beer (love it), but my toothpick legs can't handle a beer gut. That said, time for a change, I've been lazy on the blog and today's no different, nor are the DVD selections to our favorite genres. The only film worth its price in potatoes is "Onimasa", Gosha's film starring Tatsuya Nakadai. A great release for the norms, but for nerds like me (and you), if this film tickles your fancy, we've probably already purchased this film...from a site that let's you purchase this film a few months ago. And look, "nunsploitation", that sounds fun (Bad habits...are easy...to pick up...GOLD).

Merry Christmas 2009

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Santa was kind to me, even though God is probably sending me to hell (if it exist). At least my rents were fairly local, so not much travelling this wknd. It's a winter wonderland on the North NJ coast. Weather sucks today though, feels like a Nor'eastern. I've put on a couple of lb's this month and will have to melt off for the New Year's Res. The wif and I have been baking cookies up the wahzoo! (Toll House, Pillsbury Choco Chip, PB, Heath Bar...all that good shit). My dungaree's are a little snug this week. Any who, hope your holiday was splendid and have a superb New Year from all the staff at CBE (it's just me).
